The Reconstruction Takes Shape

Some more views of the drainage work being done on the grounds of the Sydney Live Steam Locomotive Society.

These photos from the camera of Brian Carter.

Volume 4

The pit has been formed and built and the floor of the concrete apron has just been poured. This large area is to scoop the water into the drain without overfklowing the end of the grounds. The pit (covered by plywood sheets in this picture) drains into the main 17m deep in the background to take the water onto the Parramatta River by tunnel. It is hard to imagine the volume of water that this is designed for ever coming down our grounds. The previous flood of this volume was probably pre Captain Cook!

The wing walls have been formed around the floor in the previous photo, and the steel framework for the mesh deck has been added.

A smaller pit near the entrance designed to collect water coming down the driveway.

Here the mesh deck is in place and the grill to cover the main water entry.

The view after backfilling. The heavy work is just about finished (thank heavens!) Our ground level tracks will be laid across this mesh.
