The
Australian Branch of the 6/80 & MO Club's 3rd
National Rally 28 September-1 October 2001 |
|
| Warwicks Index Page | With perfect
weather the weekend was a great success. Thirteen club
cars attended at various times during the weekend; Three
MO sedans, an MO ute, an MO van, two Series 2 Oxfords,
two Morris Sixes, three 6/80's, and a 4/50. On the Sunday
we were joined by a Morris J Van, and other vehicles from
the Hunter Region of the MG Car Club. After a Friday evening BBQ, Saturday took us via Blackbutte Reserve then up and down the hills into Newcastle where we circumnavigated the business district, took in the vistas at Nobbys lookout over the Pacific Ocean, drove past the vast steel works (now being demolished) and ended up in Beresfield Bowling Club for lunch. After lunch, we visited Morpeth for a lazy afternoon amongst the antique shops and delightful old worlde atmosphere. Sunday saw us heading for a rendevous at Hexham with the MG Car Club. Here the J Van joined us and together we headed for the Richmond Vale Railway, where our steam train awaited us.We had the grounds to ourselves, and we joined the train for the trip to Pelaw Main. A photo stop along the way was thrilling as the loco charged at the grade. After returning we had an every possible combination of cars lined up for the photo shoot. After lunch we bade farewell to our steamey location and headed for the local vineyards where those so inclined tried the wares and purchased the necessary wine cellar fillers. Monday saw many depart, but those who remained made the drive to Williamstown Air Force Base. I don't know how Alf Padgett did it,. but he arranged everything to perfection, including the weather!
