Webmasters expect to get complaints about their web page, and this is to the good. Because every complaint that comes in shows firstly that people are reading the page, and secondly that they are sufficiently interested to want to change something.

I particularly like people to point out my errors because, without such feedback, they would probably go uncorrected. So thank you all.

But sometimes complaints come in that seem a little unjustified, and I received such an email just a few hours ago from our erstwhile curriculum co-ordinator, Alan Lees.

I didn't mind that he told me I had mis-spelt Pharaoh in my U3A Visit to Ancient Egypt story. That was welcome, but when he complained that the photograph accompanying the story showed his bald patch I was dumbfounded. I mean, it's a badge of honour at our age, isn't it?

Then I thought, "No, Dozy," (that's what I'm usually called on the Web), "that's not fair. He might be very sensitive about his bald patch. You should do something about it." And so I did.

That's the original picture of Alan and his bald patch, on the right.

So I grew some hair on his bald patch—see the picture at left, below. He now had a fine head of hair and I was feeling pretty good about making him look so young.

Then my wife came in and checked out the transformation. She didn't think I'd gone far enough. "His hair is all grey," she said. Lynne has a depressingly luxuriant head of hair but she's a generous soul and offered to lend Alan her pony tail. That's him with Lynne's hair in the third pic, looking about as young as my graphics program can make him.
