When you consider the amount of silliness, or downright criminality, that gets published on YouTube you could be excused for thinking it was a meeting place for morons. That would be a shame because you'd miss out on one of the Web's most useful resources.
To use it you only need to go to YouTube and type your query into the search box at the top of the page.
If you're looking for humour, YouTube has all you could want. If you haven't heard Anita Renfroe's startling MomSense in which she collects everything a mother might say to her children in the course of a single day and condenses them into a three minute version of the William Tell Overture, you should take this opportunity to hear it. It's clever.
If you liked that, you'll love the sequel, Dadsense, which she wrote after receiving complaints about discrimination against men. You'll find it at THIS LINK.
Of course, YouTube is not only about laughter and music, though there's a great deal of both there. Did you know that you can go there to learn anything you want? Take basic computer skills, for instance. The next video is a tutorial on how to use Windows Explorer. Simple stuff but necessary to know. You'll also find advanced tutorials on all manner of computer-related topics.
Maybe your seven energetic grandkids need looking after while their Mum's in hospital having a nervous breakdown. Grandma takes the first flight to lend a hand and you, Grandpa, who have never cooked a thing in your life, are faced with a dilemma. Undeterred, you fire up your computer and mosey down to YouTube where you type "easy recipes" into the search box and voilà! you're an instant chef.
Don't underestimate YouTube. It's got everything you could imagine and a lot that you couldn't.
