Musical Memories (at Penrith)
quill

This class, at Penrith School of Arts, is one of two classes using the same name.

This is an entertaining morning session, listening to the old songs and tunes which we do not hear often enough these days.
The course will use recordings to present music of the great performers from stage and screen.

When I spoke to Keith Webster I was captivated by his love of music and his enthusiasm for the course.

The music dates from about 1905 until around the 1960s or, sometimes, even later; but, as Keith pointed out, the suitable songs get scarcer the closer we get to the present day. Sometimes he plays general light music, sometimes songs from the shows.

Keith often works the class content around a particular theme so that Lakes and Rivers  might include Loch Lomond, Old Man River, and Old Father Thames. Other themes have been Silence, Towns and Cities, and Unusual Titles. There have been other occasions when the themes have been alphabetical—but I'm not sure how many pieces he owns beginning with the letter X.

Sometimes there is discussion about the music, sometimes there is a class sing-along.

Musical Memories is a very popular group with the numbers varying from a mid-winter low of 20+ to a summer high in the 30s.
