I have been playing Canasta Five on a regular basis for more than 10 years. It is a lot fun, keeps your mind active, and makes the old grey matter keep on keeping on. However Canasta Five is not a really serious game like some card games, bridge or 500 for example. It is more of a social game, and once you are comfortable with your game, you can as I do, enjoy a chat as well as a game. It is not difficult to learn, the game is usually played either as a group of four people, (two pairs) or a group of six people, three pairs. You can also play in a group of two or three people, though it is a slower game, and different tactics are called for. I have been retired from the work force for nearly six years, and have found U3A to be a great source of interesting groups and along the way I have met a lot of very nice people. As well as enjoying some of the scheduled classes, I am the Office Manager too this year. This is proving to be an enjoyable experience for me, and gives me the opportunity to keep up some of the skills I obtained during my working career. Just enough work though to be interesting and fun, and not too much like the work I I did for thirty plus years. In doing this job I have got to meet and work with the committee members that run our U3A. What a thoroughly likeable and dedicated bunch of people they are. So come along and join in my Canasta Five class on a Friday afternoon. See if it suits you. I am sure you will get to enjoy yourself and meet other U3A members. If you have any queries at all concerning Canasta Five, you can ring me on 4721 1735, or at the office on 4722 3405. |
