Bundari
Botanical name: Eucalyptus moluccana, Eucalyptus microcarpa, Eucalyptus bosistoana
Distribution: Medium sized hardwoods that grow from the central to north coast of New South Wales and into Southern Queensland. It grows from 12m to 18m (40-60ft).
Colour: Bundari, even though from three different species, yield timbers that is pale brown with a slight pinkish tinge with moderate figure.
The timber: Bundari is of fine and even texture with generally straight grain although some material may show an interlocked grain. Gum veins are infrequent in the heartwood.
Mechanical properties: A very strong and heavy timber, not suitable for steam bending. High crush resistance and very durable. Kiln dry density of approx. 950kgs/m3 (59lb/ft3).
Working properties: Due to its density Bundari is fairly difficult to work with hand or machine tools. It requires pre drilling before using screws and nails. Glues satisfactorily and finishes to a high polish. It accepts most finishing treatments well.
Uses: Flooring, decking, panelling, garden sleepers, marine work, stairtreads and worktops.
Availability: Plentiful.
