Trewilga
Botanical name: Argyrodendron trifoliolatum and Argyrodendron actinophyllum
Distribution: A large hardwood located from Central New South Wales and Northern Queensland on the coastal plains. The tree can attain a height of 45m (145ft).
Colour: The heartwood is a pale brown, the sapwood is lighter in colour and both heartwood have prominent rays.
The timber: Grain is generally straight but some material may have slightly interlocked grain. Texture is coarse but even.
Mechanical properties: Not sufficiently durable to be used in exterior applications. Suitable for steam bending. Kiln dry density of approx. 780kgs/m3 (48lb/ft3).
Working properties: Trewilga offers medium resistance to hand and machine tools and cutters must be kept sharp to avoid grain tear out. Pre drilling for nails and screws is advisable. Glues without difficulty. Works well to a smooth finish and Trewliga accepts most finishing treatments.
Uses: Furniture, cabinet work, flooring, bent work, panelling, turnery, carving. Not available as a veneer.
