Tintara
Botanical name: Eucalyptus meullerana
Distribution: A large hardwood distributed throughout the Southern New South Wales and Northern Victorian tablelands. The tree grows to 50m (160ft).
Colour: The heartwood is a yellowish-brown with a pinkish tinge.
The timber: The grain is often interlocked and the texture is medium and even.
Mechanical properties: Tintara is durable and can be used for both interior and exterior applications. It is not suitable for steam bending. Kiln dry density of approx. 750kgs/m3 (46lb/ft3).
Working properties: Cutters need to be kept sharp especially on interlocked grain material. Pre drilling is recommended before using nails or screws. Glues and takes stains well and finishes to a smooth polished finish.
Uses: Furniture, flooring, garden sleepers, construction work and is available as a veneer.
Availability: Plentiful.
