The Wilderness Sports Story
In 1977 the adventure travel company Wilderness Expeditions was founded by
Steve Colman. Wilderness Expeditions pioneered professional wilderness guiding
both within Australia and overseas establishing a reputation for unrivalled
excellence in wilderness travel
The home base for Wilderness Expeditions was always Kosciusko National Park.
From this base many of Australia's most remarkable and successful wilderness
expeditions were planned. The most notable being the first Australian climb of
Mt Everest in 1984 by Wilderness Expeditions director Tim McCartney Snape and
Greg Mortimer
The Wilderness Sports shop began in 1987 as the booking, hire and retail arm
of Wilderness Expeditions. It now operates as a separate company
The directors and owners of the business are Steve Colman, Bruce Easton and
Stefan Jurkiewicz. Between them they combine significant experience both in
wilderness travel and guiding, outdoor equipment and running a customer service
focused business
The Wilderness Sports shop can be found at the Nuggets Crossing shopping
centre on the Alpine Way in Jindabyne. Call in sometime.
