Hobbs Family History

Do you descend from Huntingdonshire England ?

Introduction

Our Hobbs family descended from a small village outside Huntingdon called Little Stukeley. We have been able to trace back to 5th November 1685 when Matthew Hobbs married Jane Hull. Matthew was born approximately 1660 and died on 18th February 1733/34 at Little Stukeley. Jane was buried on 29th June 1668.

There were 6 children to this marriage; John, Matthew & Robert (twins), Mary, Issac & Jane (twins) all of whom died at birth.

Matthew was to marry twice more after the death of Jane.

Firstly, to Rachel Diglin on 30th September 1688 at Little Stukeley, producing no offspring before Rachel died on the 11th November 1698.

Matthew was not going to give in, marrying once more to Jane Buddell on 1st February 1698/99 at Little Stukeley. Jane was born on 30th April 1679 at Little Stukeley and after giving birth to 8 children died and was buried on 25th September 1719, also at Little Stukeley.

Matthew and Jane's 8 children were; William (who married and had children), Matthew, Mary, Richard & Elizabeth (twins), Henry (who married and had children), Elizabeth and Matthew. Except for the two who married all the others died at or near birth.

NOTE: The connection between Matthew HOBBS circa 1660 (above) & Henry HOBBS circa 1723 (following) has not yet established, but it is almost certain that they are directly connected as there seems to be only a single Hobbs family in the area at this time. There were many issues in this early period which caused the recording of a birth, death or marriage to be missed, therefore making it difficult to trace every event.
