This hand drum is from Zimbabwe, but is common to many other cultures in Africa and around the world.

These frame drums have a handle. From the frame beside the skin (on both sides), a string with a beater is attached. When the drum is twirled the string and beater swing out with centrifugal force and as the twirl is reversed the beaters hit the drum.

It is played by twirling, back and forth, between the thumb and fingers of one hand or between the palms of both hands. Many varying rhythms can be played.

They have many names and slightly different styles. Some names are duki duki in parts of Africa, damasas in Peru and kelontong in Java.
