‘FOLLOW THE CHRIST!’
was the stirring theme for the 2007
District Conventions of Jehovah’s Witnesses. But who is ‘The Christ’ we are
being asked to follow? Is he Jesus Christ, as revealed in the Bible? Or is he another Jesus, as warned of by the apostle Paul? (2 Cor. 11:4
"For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom
we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or
another gospel, which ye have not accepted"
see also Gal. 1:8-9 "But though we, or an angel from
heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let
him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other
gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.")
The Watchtower Society teaches its members (Jehovah’s Witnesses) that Jesus is the archangel Michael and that they are to follow him, as their model. But the Jesus who is revealed through the Bible is far greater than an archangel. The true Christ is ‘God manifest in the flesh’ (John 1:1 "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." John 1:14 "And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth" 1 Timothy 3:16 "And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.").
‘The Christ’ that the Watchtower is encouraging people to follow is merely a created spirit creature and ‘one of the chief princes’ (Dan. 10:13 "But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia."). This is not the true Christ. The Biblical Jesus is unique. He ‘is the image of the invisible God’ (Col. 1:15). He is ‘in very nature God’ (Phil. 2:6) and, unlike angels who refuse worship, the writer to the Hebrews tells us that the Biblical Jesus is worshipped by all the angels (Heb. 1:6). Jesus, the true Christ, is far superior to the angels and is worshipped even by archangels, including Michael. The Biblical Jesus is the only Christ we are called to follow. Do not be deceived into following the false ‘Christ’ of the Watchtower !
