A MINOR DRAMA ON ORONTES 2 LAST VOYAGE
Courtesy of Dr.Alan Whitcomb who writes: This is a unique photo, Chris, taken on the last voyage of the Orontes in the Australian Bight.
As I remember the incident.
Orontes was sailing in the Australian Bight on her last voyage and a young woman had been sitting on a higher deck on the ship's rail. The ship gave a lurch and she was tipped into the sea. Two rescue boats were launched to pick her up. One was the Captains motor propelled boat and the other manned by oarsmen. The latter got to the girl first!
I was on the stretcher party that carried the young girl to the ship's hospital. Wouldn't is be amazing to locate this girl and get her memory of the event. I also wonder how this event is shown in the log of the Orontes. If you locate this entry I would love to have a copy.
