Special holiday asthma workshop for teens and children

from The Blue Mountains Gazette, Wednesday, June 21, 2000

Winter is a time of dread if you have a child with asthma and other breathing related disorders. It has been over a year now since my son, Max, has been asthma free. We both did a workshop down in Sydney (the nearest Buteyko practice then). After ten years of struggle with severe asthma the Buteyko workshop set us free. Free from those tense nights of literally trying to breathe for my son and wondering just how long it would be before each cold turned into yet another asthma attack .Oh and how easily he used to catch colds too. What a different life it is for the whole family now. Max is now a blue belt in Taekwando. He’s achieved that in one year. Amazing how much can be achieved when your life is not ruled by asthma!!!!

It has been my privilege to become the Buteyko Practitioner to bring the Buteyko Method to the Blue Mountains. Over the past seven months I have worked with dozens of folk with all kinds of breathing related disorders. It’s so exciting to see the changes in their lives.

I am also a dance and fitness teacher as well as working in a voluntary capacity with the dance programme at Hazelbrook School. I love to work with children and it breaks my heart to see so many of them battle with the handicap of asthma when they don’t need too. So….. I want to offer a holiday special workshop at Hazelbrook Public School the first week of the July holidays.

There will be a limited number of places, as I like to work with small groups. If I have a large response to this offer I will run additional workshops at different times during the same week.

The Buteyko Method is a natural, drug free and effective way to control asthma. By practicing the exercises, applying the principles and putting them to use in every day life, asthmatics are able to reduce their symptoms and asthma medication dramatically. We run strictly to Asthma Foundation guidelines of preventer as prescribed by doctor and bronchodilator as needed. You just find you don’t need the bronchodilator much- if at all. Max certainly doesn’t. Book early to avoid disappointment.
