FOLLOW YOUR NOSE

from The Blue Mountains Gazette

“Go only as fast as your nose will let you” suggests Jennifer Harris of Buteyko Breathe Easy. “If you have to open your mouth to breathe you are asking your body to perform beyond your respiratory system’s capacity to healthily support that activity. In other words, for example, if you are walking or running too fast and need to open your mouth to breathe you are pushing yourself too hard. It is important to recognize this and remain as aware of your breathing as you are of your hunger or thirst. Train yourself to slow down or stop what you are doing until you can breathe easily through your nose again. This is a simple thing to do that will have great health benefits. Poor breathing habits inevitably lead to poor health.”
