ENERGY OUT- ENERGY IN
from The Blue Mountains Gazette
“When referring to the balance between food and exercise people usually say “energy in - energy out” says Jennifer Harris of Buteyko Breathe Easy. “ It is important to note that the reverse is also true. When we exercise, and I mean simply move our bodies as in being physically active, we generate carbon dioxide as a by product of the exercise. The carbon dioxide in our bodies and in particular, our blood, then facilitates the delivery of energy giving oxygen to every tissue in our bodies. Carbon dioxide also naturally dilates all smooth muscle throughout the body. Smooth muscle lines all hollow organs like those in the respiratory, digestive and cardio vascular systems. Being physically active therefore helps us to breathe better, lowers blood pressure, aids digestion and metabolism. Physical activity helps to oxygenate the brain enabling the release of feel good brain chemicals and helps to settle the over hyping physical effects of adrenalin and cortisol.
At Buteyko Breathe Easy my clients and I work on healthy ways for them to breathe, move, eat, relax and sleep. In cyclic fashion each of these elements for a healthy life impact on one another. Every client has individual needs so every programme is personalised. All my clients are encouraged to stretch daily and many of them join in my Pilates classes at Hazelbrook as a way of combining breathing and movement.”
