RECIPE FOR A HEALTHIER WINTER
from The Blue Mountains Gazette
Winter ills are back again, so Jennifer Harris of Buteyko Breathe Easy offers the following tips to help combat the “bugs”.
“Breathe through your nose. Your nose adjusts the temperature of the air, size of breath, efficiency of diaphragm use, moisturizes the inhaled air, filters the air and, in particular, the mucous “blanket” that lines the airways has an enzyme which sterilizes the air you breathe by 75%. Exercise in the fresh air as much as possible and make sure that you have fresh air coming into your home. Stale air which recycles colds and flu is not healthy. Neither is overheating your home or workplace environment. Wear hats, scarves, gloves, jackets and warm footwear when necessary, and, if you a have respiratory condition an “old fashioned” singlet is a must. Eat lots of fresh fruit and vegetables (in season is preferable) lean protein, moderate amounts of grain and every day drink a glass of water for every nine kilos of body weight. Add Celtic Sea Salt to your diet. Avoid sugar and processed and take away foods. At the first sign of a sore throat gargle with Celtic Sea Salt and warm water. Keep doing it! Appropriate doses of vitamin C and garlic and horseradish are a boost for the immune system. If you need to rest you must rest! Try not to oversleep or overeat as this causes unnecessary stress on your body.”
