Never Too Old To Be Healthy
from The Blue Mountains Gazette, Wednesday, January 16, 2002
I am frequently asked by elderly callers "am I too old to learn to breathe correctly?" Never! Even with advanced cases of emphysema learning some basic correct breathing techniques can make a huge difference in quality of life. Of course the earlier I can work with someone on their breathing the better.
I work with clients of all ages. Some are as young as four and some are well into their eighties and beyond. Some just want to have better health and more energy for sport, gardening and general activities while other folk need remedial work for symptoms of incorrect breathing like asthma, migraine, sinusitis, allergies, excema, sleep apnoea and snoring.
One 84 year old client phoned me after four one hour sessions per week to say "Don’t panic Jennifer. I’m not phoning because anything is wrong. I just wanted to let you know that this time last year I had been in hospital four times because of asthma. This year I have been on four bus tours and am going to every Christmas party that I am invited to!"
Another lady in her mid seventies suffered from asthma, insomnia, panic and shortness of breath on exertion. After one month of weekly sessions of the Buteyko Breathing Programme she was sleeping through the night, free of asthma symptoms and peacefully going about her normal life shopping, gardening and walking up & down the hills surrounding her home.
Don’t ever give up on your health people. Have a healthy, happy, safe & prosperous 2002.
Buteyko Breathing classes are held at Hazelbrook Public School. Courses run for ten weeks with a one hour class per week. Children attend on Tuesdays at 4pm & adults attend at 4pm on Thursdays. My next adult course begins February 7th and children’s course begins March 19th.
