Food for the Body & Brain

from The Hazelbrook PS Newsletter, Tuesday, September 25, 2001

A diet rich in fruits & vegetables, lean protein, a moderate amount of cereals, healthy oils (like olive, canola oil, nuts & seeds) & plenty of fresh clean water provides the perfect diet for young & old alike.

Processed foods have been so tampered with that the body has to struggle to even digest them. These convenience foods are choc full of chemicals & sugar.

Any ingredient ending in "ose" is a form of sugar. The only sugars that our bodies can use beneficially are unrefined sugars such as in fruit, raw honey, maple syrup, rice syrup, molasses & black sugar. We certainly shouldn’t over indulge in any sugars other than what is in fresh fruit. Organic fruit is the best.

Ideally we should eat a balance of protein, carbohydrate & oil at every meal. Meals should not be large either. We should eat only when hungry & then only enough to satisfy. Even a lettuce leaf eaten when you are not hungry is over eating & puts a strain on the body.

It is far healthier to obtain your carbohydrates from fruit & vegetables than from grain foods. The latest nutritional research points to the over consumption of grain as a major factor in the rise in diabetes in both children & adults.

For a top performance in everything you do a truly balanced & natural diet will not fail you.
