SKIN RASHES

from The Hazelbrook PS Newsletter

Rash is a term applied to any eruption of the skin, especially those associated with communicable diseases. For this reason, if the rash is accompanied by other symptoms, do not attempt to self diagnose and treat. GO TO SEE YOUR HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONAL IMMEDIATELY. People with undiagnosed rashes should NOT mix with other people. If you are confident that the rash is the only symptom, or, you have already had your health professional shake their head as to what to do to get rid of the rash, there are many natural ways to ease the symptoms.

Most rashes are usually a shade of red. Some have pustules or lesions. Some, like eczema, may develop dry, flaky areas and are accompanied by dreadful itchiness.

Grass rash is very common. Children rolling on grass with bare skin exposed are vulnerable to the “juices” in the grass itself and the grass mites. Bath the child in tepid water with mild non-perfumed soap or even sorbaline instead. Ice can bring relief to itchiness. Lavender oil is wonderful for both itches and rashes of all kinds. Tee tree oil is also wonderful if you suspect a “ mite” of any kind is present. Always check on how to use any product before applying it. Also MAKE SURE that the redness and itchiness does not emanate from a bite from a bug larger than a mite. This is a whole other case needing different treatment. If prickly heat is the problem then simply cool your child down and get them to rest.

Eczema is actually external asthma. Does your child chronically breathe through their mouth? Do they snore at night? Are they rapid, noisy breathers? I have worked with many sufferers of eczema with great success. It is in the breathing folks. Over breathing causes a “wash out” of carbon dioxide which in turn results in the mast cells in the blood releasing histamine. Correct the breathing and the balance returns to normal.

Do be careful what soaps, detergents and even surface cleaners you use at home. Skin is not meant to have lots of chemicals attacking it. Bare, sweaty skin often reacts to artificial contact, even acrylic clothing let alone surface cleaners on counter tops.

Lastly, fatty, starchy and sugary foods will overburden the blood stream. Fresh fruits and vegetables and clean water are of vital importance, especially if your body is out of balance in any way.
